If you or your kids have eczema or atopic dermatitis, you probably are like me and have tried every moisturizer in the world. I would like to tell you what has worked for us.
Hints: Always apply your moisturizer while you are wet. Vaseline really does seem to work just as well as any more expensive products. My allergist strongly recommends Eucerin, but my son found it irratating and could not use it.
I also found a product called Egyptian Magic (magic? no, but it works)in the health food store that I recommend.
Although a dermatolist I took my son to frowned on bathing more than once a week, my kids do much better with frequent Aveeno soaks. Those fluffy plastic things that come with some shower gels are great exfoliators.Try one! As much as I hate steroids, I have come to realize that sometimes you've just got to use those perscription lotions to get a break out under control or to help a particularly raw spot heal.
Another thing to think about for the very little one is nickel; when our allergist told me to eliminate all clothing with metal snaps from my daughter's wardrobe, I thought he was nuts. If you've got a baby you know snaps are everywhere. Anyway, he was right on. When, after a few weeks of snap free dressing, I let her sleep in her old p.j.s ,she woke up with nasty red bumps everywhere the snaps had touched her skin.
